Tell us about your skate madness. When you see a spot from a car or whatever, do you think what you would do there? Do you, when walking through airports and such, do smith grinds with your fingers on countertops? How bad do you have the itch?

WELL IT’S SAD TO SAY, BUT I DON’T HAVE THE MADNESS AS MUCH AS I USED TO. WELL, THAT’S NOT TRUE. I STILL HAVE IT, BUT IT’S DIFERENT. BUT I’M A GRUMPY OLD MAN NOW. I’VE BEEN SPOILED. I HAVE BEEN SKATING FOR 19 YEARS NOW. ALMOST 14 OF THEM I HAVE BEEN “PRO.” I HAVE BEEN TRAVELING AROUND THE WORLD SKATING THE SICKEST SPOTS AND PARKS. IT’S LIKE I’VE BEEN HAND-FED A DOZEN OF THE BEST DOGHNUTS EVERY DAY FOR 14 YEARS. NOW THOSE DOUGHNUTS DON’T QUITE DO IT LIKE THEY USE TO. NOW I HAVE REVERTED BACK TO THE CRUSTY STALE DOGHNUTS. I LOVE WHAT I GREW UP WITH. A GOOD RED CURB IS WHAT MAKES ITCH NOW. OR THE $H!TTY MINI-RAMP WITH THE OLD SKATE PUNKS AND A 12-PACK OF BEER.


Before you were the superstar professional skateboarder you are now, I am sure there was a time in your skateboarding career that you had to skate other boards. What were your top three favorite boards and how many did you have of each one of them?

WOW, SUPERSTAR? I DON’T KNOW ABOUT THAT ONE. WHEN I WAS A KID, BEFORE I HAD SPONSORS OR SOME SORT OF HOOK-UP, I RARELY HAD A NEW BOARD. I USUALLY HAD SOME SORT OF HAND-ME-DOWN. BUT I DID HAVE TWO SMA NATAS BOARDS – BRAND NEW EVEN. I GOT TO PICK ‘EM UP AT THE SKATE SHOP AND EVERYTHING. LATER ON SALMAN GOT SPONSORED BY POWELL. I WOULD GET TO ORDER A BOARD ONCE A MONTH THAT CAME WITH HIS PACKAGE. I LOVED THE FRANKIE HILL BOARD AT THAT TIME. I HAD AT LEAST FOUR OR FIVE OF THEM. THERE ARE TWO MORE BOARDS THAT COME TO MIND – THE SPIDY (RICK DEMONTRON – Editor’s note: I think that’s spelled incorrectly.) BY SANTA CRUZ. I HAD ONE OF THOSE. TO THIS DAY IT’S ONE OF MY FAVORITE GRAPHICS OF ALL TIME. I ALSO HAD A CIRCLE-A RICKY WINDSOR. I WAS SUPER-HYPED ON CIRCLE-A AT THE TIME. THE WINDSOR BOARD WAS MY FAVORITE FOR SURE. THAT’S WHERE I RIPPED OFF THE PUNK POINT FROM. LONG LIVE THE WINDS!




Is there a television show or a movie that you are ashamed and/or embarrassed to admit that you like?

YES, I GOT SUCKERED INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHTS - LOST AND SURFACE. I CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT I HAVE BECOME.


Being a pro skateboarder allows and makes you travel all over the world. Tell us something that because of touring that you missed that you really wanted to do and/or see. Also, what is something that you were able to do and/or see because you were on tour that you would have missed had you not been on tour?

HMMM, LET’S SEE. JUST TIME WITH MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER. IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING ALWAYS HAPPENS WHEN I AM GONE. THINGS THAT A HUSBAND OR FATHER SHOULD BE THERE FOR. MY WIFE BOUGHT ME AC/DC TICKETS FOR MY BIRTHDAY YEARS AGO. HAD TO MISS THAT ONE. I COULD GO ON FOREVER ABOUT THE THINGS I HAVE DONE OR SEEN BECAUSE OF TOURS. MOST OF THEM ARE REALLY NOT TOO EXCITING, BUT LOOKING BACK ARE PRETTY COOL TO ME. LIKE BEING IN RHODE ISLAND AND DRIVING JASON JESSE TO DUNKIN DOUGHNUTS AT 3AM IN FRED SMITH’S TRUCK. IF YOU TOLD ME I WOULD BE IN THAT TYPE OF SITUATION WHEN I WAS 14, I WOULD BE TRIPPIN’.

There is a war outside of our window. It's destroying our world. Any advice?

HMMM, SOUNDS LIKE A TYPICAL DAY FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. STILL HAVN’T FIGURED THAT ONE OUT...GO SHRED?


So how do you roll? Ipod, some other type of MP3 player, mixed CD's with a portable CD player? What are the top five songs and/or bands in heavy rotation on your music playing device?

YES, I HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY. IPOD IS MY CHOICE FOR ROCKING. TOP FIVE? IT’S ALWAYS ROTATING. I DEFINITELY GO THROUGH PHASES WITH MUSIC. LATELY I’VE BEEN REALY INTO PUNK STUFF. A LOT OF BAD RELIGION, THE UNSEEN, THE FORGOTTEN, COCKSPARRAR, AND ALWAYS THE CLASH. LARS AND THE BASTARDS, TOO.



Skateboarders are creative creatures by nature. What else besides skating feeds your creative nature? Play in a band? Draw? Paint? Direct pornographic movies?

I HAVE BEEN INTO DOING STENCIL SHIT FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. IT KEEPS ME SANE IN THE WINTER TIME. BEER DRINKING IS PRETTY CREATIVE...RIGHT?


A young local skater has written a letter asking for help with a trick. Maybe you can help him. In his letter he says, "I can’t get my eggplants around." Do you have any advice or tips for our young skater friend?

YOU HAVE TO PUSH, PUSH WITH YOUR ARM.


What is something that you would jump in your car right now and drive five hours for?

I DON’T THINK MY WIFE WOULD BE HAVIN’ THAT ONE. SHE’S PREGNANT AND QUITE EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW. PLUS, THERE IS NO CHANCE FOR A CLASH REUNION TOUR. WAIT. FREE PAMPERS?
